Nicks Egregiously Cool Page

Are we running out of ideas?

I was taking a look at all the new movies that will be coming out within the next year. I noticed a big trend in older movies back in theaters to 3d-such as titanic now. Finding nemo will soon be in theaters again. Several sequels are coming out as well such as a addition to the bourne series and men in black 3.. They are even creating a new spiderman series with a new actor. There are also remakes coming out such as “The Warriors.”

These movies and the entertainment industry is trying to pull in movies that will make the big bucks. Remakes allow parents to want to go see the movie since they are more inclined to go to the theaters because kids now can just download movies from the internet. People like to see things they are familiar with and so many ideas have been used and people just want quantity of movies opposed to quality. Movies like twilight and the hunger games are big buck feeders. This same reasoning can explain why the phantom of the opera has been in broadway for over 25 years. Its all about raking in the cash

Classical cool is narcissistic, detached, and hedonistic. But there is a new cool. We are more sexualized and monetized, as well as materialized.

Look but no touching. You are engaging in looking, but very few people actually have more than 1 sexual partners. It creates a fantasy world. Facebook…

Look at the discrepancy between classic art and modern art. We discussed in class if art is dead. Is a square portrait thats red really even art? Is it possible that art died after the development of the photograph? Many popular works of art are of live images or events. Do we need this anymore?

Interesting… explains why two and a half men, ALL reality shows, and several other have such obvious drama and humor. You dont need to pay attention and can just stare at the tv with an unconscious mind. Habituation of this will eventually lead to more hours of watching tv like a zombie and wasting your time when you could do something more meaningful

Sums up my claims in one meme. Once people have power, they want other people to be “stupified” so they can remain in control and restrict the oppressed from being smart enough to rebel.

This quote can be interpreted in 2 ways. One that the same dummys we knew in our classes are the same ones that are now running this country. The next can be that the same people that we were in the same classes with are now running the country while we are sitting at home playing video games, watching tv and doing nothing

Observing Cool

One thing i thought about while doing my presentation is how we analyze, observe and characterize the meaning of cool. In order to observe cool you must place yourself outside of the “cool” realm and try to notice the behaviors/appearances of cool. This is something my parents and grandparents constantly do once they notice certain cool fads. My grandpa does question what the new cool is for my generation and compares it to his. This must mean that while we are observing and talking about cool, we are also maturing and drifting away from what is actually cool now-because like we said in class; once our parents start stealing whats cool, then it is not cool anymore. So if you want to stay cool, hide it from your parents and grandparents because they want to find it. Soon we will be in their shoes and want to know what is cool for our children and childrens children.
